Minecraft Sift: Can You Enter It? Java & Bedrock Plans

The Sift is playable in Minecraft Dungeons II. Java and Bedrock are planned for 2027. Check which game a guide covers before following portal or mod steps.

The Sift is an official new dimension. You can experience it in Minecraft Dungeons II, but its arrival in Minecraft Java and Bedrock is planned for 2027. Those are separate games with separate release schedules. A Dungeons II clip does not mean you can enter the Sift in your ordinary Minecraft survival world.

Which version can you play?

Minecraft Dungeons II: available

Released September 29, 2026. The Sift belongs to this separate action-adventure game.

Minecraft Java & Bedrock: planned for 2027

The announcement gives a year, not a specific release date or a vanilla portal recipe.

Community mods: check the individual project

A mod can interpret the Sift before the vanilla update. Its installation and mechanics belong to that mod.

Status checked September 30, 2026. Mojang's Minecraft Live recap announces the Java and Bedrock plan and the Dungeons II release date. The current Dungeons II product page confirms that the separate game is available.

What is the Sift in Minecraft?

The Sift is the name of a dimension introduced through Dungeons II and announced for Minecraft itself. Mojang places the planned Minecraft version alongside the Overworld, Nether and End as a fourth dimension. Searches for “Minecraft the Sift” and “Sift Minecraft” usually point to this same announcement.

The Xbox Wire reveal describes the Dungeons II Sift as a colorful place with new creatures, environments and hazards. It names Meadows and Carapace among its areas. Those details describe the Dungeons II presentation; they are not a confirmed list of biomes or mechanics for the future Java and Bedrock update.

Can you enter the Sift in Java or Bedrock now?

The announced vanilla release is in 2027. There is no confirmed vanilla entry procedure in the announcement reviewed for this guide. It does not provide a portal frame, activation item, crafting recipe, seed or command to follow.

If you are playing an ordinary Java or Bedrock world, do not spend resources building a portal from a video until you have checked what the creator is running. A modded Java installation, a Bedrock add-on and Dungeons II can all produce footage that looks relevant while requiring entirely different steps.

A seed is not a substitute for the right game version. Before using any claimed Sift seed, ask which edition and build the author tested, whether extra content was installed, and whether the instructions come from a released version. Without that context, the number alone is not a usable guide.

When will Java and Bedrock get it?

Mojang has announced 2027 for both editions. The reviewed announcement does not name a day, a month, a release version, or a snapshot and preview schedule. An exact date attached to a fan video should therefore be checked against a later official announcement before you plan around it.

The September 29, 2026 date refers to Dungeons II. It is easy to see that date beside Sift footage and assume it describes the next Minecraft update. Check the game title in the source before checking the date.

How is the Dungeons II Sift different?

Dungeons II is the Minecraft dungeon-crawling sequel, with its own world, equipment and progression. Mojang's recap describes rifts in that game's interconnected world that take players into the Sift. It does not say that the same rifts, locations or entry requirements will appear unchanged in Java or Bedrock.

For someone who wants to explore the official Sift now, Dungeons II is the released game to look at. Check its product page for your platform and edition. Installing it does not add the Sift to an existing Java server or Bedrock world, and this page does not claim a tested Dungeons II walkthrough or an unlock route.

Planning to explore with friends? Check Dungeons II co-op modes, then crossplay joining if your group uses different platforms. For moving your own hero to another device, use the cross-progression checklist.

Is the Sift just a mod?

The official dimension announcement is real. Independently made Sift mods are separate interpretations, even when they borrow the name or imagery. A mod's portal recipe can be correct for that project without being an official Minecraft recipe.

To decide whether a guide applies to your setup, check these details in order:

  1. Find the game name: Minecraft Java, Minecraft Bedrock, or Minecraft Dungeons II.
  2. Find the tested game version. For a mod, also find its exact project name, author, release and required loader.
  3. Check whether the instructions require a mod, add-on, data pack or custom map.
  4. Use the project's own instructions for that release. Do not mix one mod's installation steps with another creator's portal tutorial.

This page does not recommend a particular Sift mod or verify its downloads. If a tutorial leaves out those details, ask for them before changing your setup.

Will the Locator Bar work in the Sift?

The reviewed Sift announcements do not establish how Minecraft's Locator Bar will behave there. They do not confirm cross-dimension visibility, marker behavior or Sift-specific waypoint commands. Dungeons II footage cannot answer that question for Java or Bedrock.

For the feature already available in Minecraft, read what the Locator Bar does and the Bedrock differences. Those guides explain the existing editions; they are not Sift location finders. For now, the useful next step is to identify your game and follow the matching release information above.
