Minecraft Dungeons 2 Cross-Progression & Save Limits

Keep your Dungeons II hero across devices with linked accounts. Check online progress, offline limits, Deluxe ownership and what the first game carries over.

Last updated: 2026-10-04

Minecraft Dungeons II supports continuing the same hero across platforms by linking platform accounts to the same Microsoft account. Mojang describes hero data stored online. That does not promise that offline heroes, purchases or the first game’s saves all transfer in the same way.

Checked October 4, 2026 against the September 29 official co-op explanation and the sources below. This guide does not claim a hands-on save migration.

Identify what you want to move

Your Dungeons II hero

Use the account checklist below. This is the cross-progression question.

An offline character

Check the mode restrictions first. Do not assume an offline-to-online conversion exists.

A purchase or Deluxe bonus
Check the item’s entitlement and store separately from the hero.
Your original Dungeons character

That is a different game. A returning-player reward is not the same as a save import.

Before changing devices

Mojang also says you can bring a hero to a friend’s device by signing into your own platform account where that platform supports it. Do not silently replace that condition with “every guest on every console.”

Use this checklist before making changes:

  1. On the original device, note the platform account, linked Microsoft account, and whether the hero is online or offline. Keep account details private.
  2. Confirm you can access Dungeons II on the destination device. Access to a save and permission to launch a purchased game are separate checks.
  3. Verify the destination platform account is linked to the intended Microsoft account. A familiar display name alone does not prove the link.
  4. Check for the expected hero and familiar equipment before continuing.
  5. If it is missing, stop and compare the account and mode information. Keep the original save and ask Minecraft support about the mismatch before deleting, overwriting or unlinking anything.

These are checking steps, not a verified recovery procedure. We have not established account-merging rules, unlinking consequences, conflict resolution, or a guaranteed sync delay.

PS5 Deluxe to Steam: separate the hero from the extras

In u/rTacoDaddy’s question, a player who pre-ordered Deluxe on PS5 asked what would happen after buying Standard on Steam. Replies give differing claims about purchased content. They are not enough to promise that every bonus will follow the hero.

Before buying another copy, list exactly what you want to use: the base game, Deluxe cosmetics, future DLC or a named promotional cape. Check each against its own official terms. A general statement about cross-progression is not an item-by-item ownership policy.

Mojang’s Capes & Promos guide gives specific account and redemption requirements for named rewards, including the Twisted Cape. Its instructions for unlocking a cape in Java or Bedrock do not establish that every Deluxe entitlement transfers from PS5 to Steam. That specific ownership question remains unconfirmed by the sources reviewed here; do not use a forum reply as a purchase guarantee.

Can an offline hero become the online hero?

The reviewed official co-op article keeps online and offline modes separate. It does not provide an offline-to-online import procedure.

u/Formal_Yesterday7922 described wanting to play alone now and with a friend later, while objecting to creating a second character. That illustrates the decision players face, not a supported conversion or a permanent rule for every future version.

Choose with your intended future sessions in mind. If continuing one hero with remote friends matters, confirm the mode before investing more time. We cannot recommend copying the first game’s save files, using its cloud-save menus, or changing extensions as a Dungeons II transfer method.

Does progress from the first Dungeons carry over?

A returning-player discussion asks whether playing the original awards gear or cosmetics in the sequel. The official reward we can point to is the Hero Cape: Mojang’s promotional article requires playing the original and logging into II with the same Microsoft account before December 31, 2026.

A cosmetic reward for playing both games is different from importing a character’s level, equipment and campaign completion. The reviewed sources do not confirm an original-to-sequel save importer. Keep your original Dungeons save; this guide makes no promise that it can be converted.

Next steps and sources

If you only want to join a friend while staying on your current device, use crossplay. For deciding who plays locally and who connects remotely, use the co-op mode guide.

Primary sources: Mojang’s September 29 co-op article for linked-account hero progress; Capes & Promos for named rewards. Consult the official game page and Steam store for platform access. Player posts supply the questions, not an ownership warranty.
