Ein Minecraft Film is the German title of A Minecraft Movie, the 2025 film starring Jack Black as Steve and Jason Momoa as Garrett. They are the same film. The German FSK record lists both titles together. For the German-language guide, read Ein Minecraft Film: Handlung, Besetzung und legal ansehen.
Looking for somewhere to watch? The German Apple TV title page is an official starting point. Check the offer shown for your country and account; a title listing alone does not establish subscription access or a particular price.

Film details
- German title: Ein Minecraft Film
- Original title: A Minecraft Movie
- Release year: 2025
- Director: Jared Hess
- Runtime: about 101 minutes
- German rating: FSK 12, with violence and threat content notes
- Studios: Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures
Apple TV Germany lists 1 hour and 41 minutes. The age classification and content notes come from the linked FSK record.
The Sony Pictures Imageworks project page confirms Hess as director and identifies Warner Bros. and Legendary. The German age classification is country-specific, and does not tell every family whether an individual child will enjoy or be comfortable with the film.
What is the story?
Garrett, Henry, Natalie and Dawn pass through a portal into the Overworld. Steve helps them navigate its block-shaped environment and search for a way home while facing creatures including piglins and zombies.
Minecraft's official release announcement introduces the Overworld adventure and the piglin threat. The film combines live actors with a digitally created Minecraft world. It tells a story; it is not a recording of a Minecraft session or a Java/Bedrock tutorial.
Cast and characters
The German Apple TV listing identifies these roles:
- Steve: Jack Black
- Garrett: Jason Momoa
- Henry: Sebastian Hansen
- Natalie: Emma Myers
- Dawn: Danielle Brooks
These are the actors portraying the characters, rather than a German dubbing cast. Look for a separate dubbing credit if you are trying to identify a German voice.
How to find a legitimate viewing offer
Start with Minecraft's official German movie hub or the German Apple TV title page above. Mojang also published an official announcement of the digital rental and purchase release. That announcement does not establish today's availability across German subscription services.
Before paying, check the specific offer:
- Access type: Is it a rental, a purchase or included in your subscription? Having a subscription does not automatically include every separately priced title.
- Country and language: Use your country's store and check the audio and subtitles on that edition. The linked German Apple TV page lists German audio, but the offer available to your account is what matters.
- Terms: Confirm the current total price and any rental start/playback windows. This guide does not promise a fixed price or uniform rental period.
A free trailer or preview does not provide free access to the full film. LocatorBar does not host the movie or provide downloads. If a listing is unavailable in your country, use the provider's country selector to check its local catalogue.
The film, game and old promotions are separate
A movie ticket or digital movie purchase is different from a Minecraft game licence. A movie-themed DLC is not the full film either. Mojang's original release announcement described Bedrock content and stated a December 31, 2025 Marketplace availability limit for the add-on, skin pack and DLC. That historical announcement is not evidence of an active free promotion in October 2026.
Choose a film offer to watch the movie. For game content, check its current Marketplace listing, supported edition and requirements. An old theatrical launch article does not prove that a promotional code is still available or redeemable.
